The 2021 National Public Works Week theme is "Stronger Together" and no year has proven this more given the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and CZU Lightning Complex Fire on all of us. Through it all, Public Works services continued. This contest provides a fun and easy way for our community to acknowledge Public Works while prizes will benefit City of Santa Cruz retailers in Downtown Dollars and parking that helps local spending.
STRONGER TOGETHER SELFIE CONTEST RULES
To enter this contest, all participants have read and understand the CONTEST RULES as follows below:
TO ENTER: SUBMIT A SELFIE -- WITH ONLY YOURSELF IN THE PHOTO -- THAT REFLECTS ONE OF PUBLIC WORKS FIVE DIVISIONS NUMBERED BELOW by Facebook Messenger to www.facebook.com/cityofsantacruzpublicworks or by Email to citypw@cityofsantacruz.com May 15- 23. Include your name and the division name with your submission. Facebook submissions: include hashtag #SCPublicWorks when posting to your timeline.
- By submitting a photo in the Stronger Together Selfie Contest, Participant explicitly agrees to the TERMS AND CONDITIONS of the Stronger Together Selfie Contest listed below.
- All Participants must be at least 18 years old and reside, work or attend school within the City of Santa Cruz.
- Photo submissions may not include any person other than the Participant.
- Participants must take and submit one to five selfie photos that relate to one or more of the Public Works divisions numbered below. Selfie photos may be taken at or near your home or at a completed Public Works project site or anywhere that reflects a Public Works division numbered below.
- Participant’s name and the Public Works division reflected in the photo must be included in the Facebook messenger or email submission.
- Facebook submissions: include hashtag #SCPublicWorks when posting to your timeline.
- Only one submission per division as follows:
- Engineering: Design and construction of dozens of completed projects like the Westside Rail Trail and Branciforte Bike Ped Bridge.
- Operations: Maintenance of Streets, sidewalks, storm drains, street signs, street lights and traffic signals.
- Resource Recovery: Refuse and recycling collection, street sweeping, and Resource Recovery Facility operation.
- Wastewater System: Processing and treatment of wastewater from sinks, showers, toilets, dishwashers; also Wastewater and Storm Water Collections.
- Traffic Engineering/Parking: Projects include Safe Routes to School/downtown parking maintenance, sidewalk cleaning and Municipal Wharf gate operation.
- Photo submissions must be no larger than 4096 x 4096 pixels with a preferred size of 1200 x 630 pixels.
- Participants may submit their selfie photos by Facebook Messenger to https://www.facebook.com/cityofsantacruzpublicworksor by Email to citypw@cityofsantacruz.com. Facebook submissions: include hashtag #SCPublicWorks when posting to your timeline.
- Selfie photo submissions will be accepted from Saturday, May 15, through Sunday, May 23, 2021.
Winners will be chosen on Mon., May 24, by a City of Santa Cruz Public Works team with awards as follows:
5 First-Place Prizes: Downtown Dollars $100
10 Second-Place Prizes: ParkCard $50
25 Third-Place Prizes: Wharf Parking Pass $20
Participants may win one to five prizes in one to five different division categories numbered above.
Winners will be notified in the way that they submitted their photo(s): either by Facebook Messenger or email within one week of the contest’s end date.
If no response is received after three business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize. The prize must be collected by the winner and is nontransferable.
This contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
Winners will have 10 days to claim their prize with details described when the winner is notified.
Winning photos as well as other submissions may be posted on the City’s website and social media channels.
Winning photos may be displayed publicly at the Santa Cruz Public Library or elsewhere.
This contest is not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by or associated with Facebook.
STRONGER TOGETHER SELFIE CONTEST TERMS AND CONDITIONS
In consideration for the City of Santa Cruz (“City”) allowing the selfie contest participant (“Participant”) to participate in the Stronger Together Selfie Contest (“Contest”), Participant acknowledges and agrees on behalf of Participant and/or Participant’s agents to the following:
Participant hereby gives the City of Santa Cruz, its employees and/or agents the right to use photographs, pictures, digital images, audio or video recordings of Participant and also for reproduction in any medium, including all City of Santa Cruz social media platforms, publications, and the City of Santa Cruz Website for any lawful purpose. Participant authorizes use of these images without compensation to Participant.
Indemnification, Waiver and Release: Participant hereby releases, discharges, and agrees to hold harmless and indemnify the City of Santa Cruz, its officials, officers, employees, agents, volunteers, and independent contractors, and Facebook, from all claims, demands, liability, losses, costs, and causes of actions, known or unknown, anticipated or unanticipated, that Participant has or may have by reason of participation in the Contest, this authorization, or the use of any such photographs, pictures, digital images, audio or video recordings, including any liability by virtue of any blurring, distortion, alteration, optical illusion, or use in composite form, whether intentional, negligent, or otherwise, that may occur or be produced in the taking of said images or videotapes, or in processing tending towards the completion of the finished product, including publication on the internet, in brochures, or any other advertisements or artistic representations.
Participant agrees not to assert any claim, institute any suit or other legal process against the City, its officers, officials, employees, agents or volunteers, and Facebook, for injury, death or damage resulting from or in any way related to this consent and release and/or participation in the above-referenced Contest.
Compliance with All Laws and Rules: Participant agrees to comply with any all rules and protocols related to public and personal health and/or safety, including but not limited to such as those required in response to the COVID-19 pandemic issued by the Santa Cruz County Public Health Department and/or by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
UPON PHOTO SUBMISSION, PARTICIPANT HEREBY CERTIFIES THAT PARTICIPANT HAS CAREFULLY READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS. PARTICIPANT FURTHER CERTIFIES THEIR UNDERSTANDING THAT THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CONSTITUTE A RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AGAINST THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ, AND AGAINST ALL OTHERS MENTIONED IN THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
PARTICIPANT FULLY UNDERSTANDS THAT BY SUBMITTING PARTICIPANTS PHOTO, PARTICIPANT IS ACCEPTING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS LISTED HEREIN AS BINDING UPON PARTICIPANT, PARTICIPANT’S, HEIRS, AGENTS, LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES, SUCCESSORS, AND ASSIGNS.
