Do I Qualify for the Discount?
This program is for City of Santa Cruz residents only. To qualify for the Home Compost $40 Discount Program you must be both a City resident and a City refuse customer. $40 is provided per household only once and the bin is yours to keep!

You must supply your 11 digit Santa Cruz Municipal Utility Bill number for proof of residency and refuse service.

Greenwaste Recovery customers including Live Oak residents are not eligible for this program and should call 800-665-2209 for the County of Santa Cruz compost bin program.

Why Should I Compost?
A significant 49% of our waste stream is made up of food, yard greens and agricultural material. Turn those yard clippings, fall leaves and kitchen greens into a valuable organic material that your plants will just love. Compost both aerates and retains moisture in your soil. Composting also keeps organic material from filling up our landfill. Give backyard composting a try. Not only is composting fun, we have also made it easy for you!

Use Your GreenCycle! Cart and Compost Bin, Too!
GreenCycle! carts and compost bins have similar functions—they both keep organic material out of the landfill. But there are differences. Your GreenCycle! cart should be used for larger prunings and branches as well as unpainted and untreated lumber. Food or kitchen greens are not permitted in the GreenCycle! cart, so that's where your compost bin comes in. Throw in that old salad, fruit and vegetable peelings or just about anything that is vegetable-based. Compost bins like fruit, leaves, plants, and grass clippings.
