Home Water Survey

The City of Santa Cruz offers the Home Water Survey program. This free service is designed to help you control your utility costs and reduce your water
use.

Our trained staff will make a house-call to evaluate your water use practices
indoors and outdoors and will make specific recommendations tailored to your
needs. The survey may reveal hidden leaks or offer new approaches to
conservation at your home. A conservation representative will set up your
appointment for a specific date and time and will spend about an hour and a half at your home.

This service is geared toward households with above average water use, whose water use exceeds 14 units per month (or 28 units for a bimonthly bill outside the City limits).

During the survey the water conservation representative will:

     • Review your water consumption history and utility bill

     • Explain how to manage your water use and detect leaks by reading your
        water meter
     • Check for plumbing leaks and recommend repairs

     • Check flow rates and flush volumes of indoor plumbing fixtures

     • Evaluate your landscaping and irrigation

     • Provide a customized lawn irrigation schedule

     • Take a soil sample for landscape evaluation

     • Provide free conservation devices and literature
