City Names New Human Resources Director
SANTA CRUZ (May 29, 2014) – The leadership team at the City of Santa Cruz has a new member. Bruce Davis has been named Director of Human Resources after an extensive recruitment process. Davis currently serves as Executive Director of Human Resources for the City of Scottsdale, Arizona.
“I am proud to welcome Bruce to Santa Cruz,” said City Manager Martin Bernal. “With experience in both the public and private sectors, he will bring a fresh perspective and the technical and leadership skills that will benefit the department and entire community.”
At the City of Scottsdale, Davis revitalized the management and leadership training function as the city prepared to reinvest in a high performance work organization and culture. He partnered with Arizona State University and the Society of Human Resource Management to administer an employee engagement survey. He also automated the performance evaluation system and created a new model for appraisals.
Prior to his time in Scottsdale, Davis served as Senior Human Resources Manager for the County of Los Angeles where he developed requirements for a talent management system and assisted in development of a strategic plan for the human resources department.
"Santa Cruz is such a dynamic city and I look forward to the work ahead,” said Davis. “The human resources staff is a talented team and we will continue to build on the successes of the department while exploring new ways to enhance customer service.”
Davis has a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in organizational psychology with a minor in business administration. His previous experience also includes time with San Diego County, Cooperative Personnel Services (CPS Human Resource Services), and as a contractor for the Transportation Security Administration. He starts in Santa Cruz on June 9.
