Proposed Project in your Area
The City of Santa Cruz (City) plans to construct a replacement well for Beltz Well No. 4, Beltz Well No. 12 (Proposed Project). The Proposed Project site is located on a small parcel (APN 030-18-170) at the corner of Research Park Drive and Cory Street in Soquel, Santa Cruz County, California. The Proposed Project site is currently vacant and undeveloped. Beltz Well No. 12 will be drilled to an approximate depth of 320 feet below ground surface to provide up to approximately 700 GPM of water. Groundwater extracted from Beltz Well No.12 would be from the same zone of the Purisima aquifer as the existing Live Oak well field and Beltz Well No. 4. Pumping from Beltz Well No. 12 could be required for a period of up to seven months (approximately April 15 to November 15). Production from Beltz Well No. 12 would not increase the City’s groundwater extraction, but would redistribute existing City production inland from existing coastal location. Water from the proposed project would help the City meet its water needs and reduce its groundwater withdrawals near the coast to prevent seawater intrusion.

The City is the Lead Agency for this project and has issued a Notice of Preparation (NOP) pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to notify all interested parties that it will be preparing an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project.

You can comment on the Project and EIR
The NOP/IS contains a description of the proposed project, maps of the proposed project area, and a summary of the potential environmental impacts to be addressed in the EIR. The NOP provides the public and interested public agencies the opportunity to review the proposed project and provide comments on the scope and content of the EIR. Comments may be submitted at the public scoping meetings or by mail anytime between December 17, 2010 and January 17, 2011. Please submit comments on the proposed project to:
