The Stage 1 Water Shortage Warning is no longer in effect. Drought resources will remain available through the winter transition period. Water supply conditions will be monitored over the winter, and another shortage may be declared if necessary.
*The Water Department did not implement business allotments this past summer*
This is due to water usage being down considerably due to the pandemic. However, businesses should understand their monthly allotments, and prepare for water use reduction in future years. Read on to understand how business allotments are calculated.
Understanding Your Monthly Allotment
Although businesses will not be presented with monthly allotments this summer, we still need our commercial customers to act. In the coming months, each business customer will be provided with the monthly baseline water consumption that is associated with the account. This baseline is the starting point from which the monthly allotment is calculated.
Example:
After the Department provides each business customer with their monthly baseline, we need the customer to...
Review the baseline – this is best done by comparing the baseline to a recent utility bill. It’s very important to understand the monthly consumption associated with the account in order to understand where and how you may be able to reduce your water usage.
Reduce usage – businesses are asked to reduce their monthly usage to the allotment amount. Although the allotment will not be presented on the monthly utility bill, business customers should figure out how they’re going to conserve now in case we go to Stage 2 next year.
Reach out with any questions – if a business believes that their baseline usage is not accurately calibrated, let us know. We’ll be happy to review the property characteristics and water usage to figure out an accurate baseline.
Understanding Health and Safety Allotment Adjustments
Healthy and Safety considerations have already been incorporated into the business allotments. Therefore, there will not be a process available for applying for additional water for health and safety requirements. For exceptional circumstances please contact the Customer Service department at (831) 420-5220.
