VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LOCH LOMOND “BROOM BASH”
Santa Cruz (March 14, 2019) – In an ongoing effort to eradicate invasive French broom from the Loch Lomond Reservoir watershed, Santa Cruz Water Department Rangers are asking volunteers to join them for a “Broom Bash” on March 24 from 9:30AM until 12:30PM in the Loch Lomond Recreation Area.
Loch Lomond Reservoir is the city’s only drinking water reservoir. French broom is an invasive plant that chokes out native plant species and upsets ecosystems. Protecting the watershed helps protect water quality, as well as natural habitat for fish and wildlife.
Volunteers are asked to dress in layers for outdoor work, and to bring a water bottle and work gloves, if available. Light snacks and drinking water will be provided, and volunteers will receive a voucher for a free one hour boat rental at Loch Lomond. Volunteers should meet at the recreation area, 100 Loch Lomond Way, Felton. RSVPs are required, but inquiries can be directed to Angie Richman at 831 335-7424 or arichman@cityofsantacruz.com
