El Camino Real Bell Marker Removal Ceremony
In December of 2020, the City of Santa Cruz adopted a resolution calling for the removal of all El Camino Real bell markers over which the city has jurisdiction. This action was requested by the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band in 2018. The City of Santa Cruz became the first city in California to order the removal of El Camino Real bell markers. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band envisions marking the occasion of the bell removal with a removal ceremony, press conference, and special outdoor public speaking event. The event will be 1pm-4pm and will include a procession from Mission/Water St to River St. to Soquel Ave at Riverside.
