Woodie Surfboard Procession

Thursday, June 25th
11AM-12PM
*Begins at Pasatiempo Parking Lot, ends at the MAH

The boards are back. And they’re arriving at the MAH in style: via about 40 woodies and a vintage police car escort. When we decrate the boards, it’ll be the first time they’ve seen Santa Cruz in 130 years.

Three brothers from the Hawaiian Royal Family first rode our waves in 1885. They introduced surfing to California via the waves of Santa Cruz. When they returned to Hawaii a few years later, they took their boards with them.

A procession of “Woodies," organized by the Santa Cruz Woodies Club, will escort the o’lo surfboards into Santa Cruz for the upcoming Princes of Surf exhibition at the MAH. The procession will drive downtown onto Pacific Ave. and finish in front of the Museum of Art and History on Front St. at 12PM.  There, during a private MAH members ceremony, the two precious surfboards will be decrated. The boards will be on display to the public opening July First Friday.
