Please join the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History along with local military and veterans organizations to commemorate Santa Cruz’s 149th Memorial Day.
The Observance is held in the quiet Grand Army of the Republic plot at Evergreen Cemetery. This traditional remembrance features musical and spoken tributes from local community leaders, veterans and military including Chuck Woodson and the Defense Language Institute Active Personnel and ACWA 2nd Wisconsin Infantry, Co. “H” and SVR’s 89th California Infantry Company C. The National Anthem will be sung.
Before and after the Remembrance, MAH will have a Pop Up Museum that honors those who have served our country. The Museum encourages you to bring an object, memorabilia, or photograph to share with the public that honors your memory of a loved one, family member or friend who has served or is serving our country’s armed forces. We will ask you to write a brief label about the object and the person are honoring.
A Pop Up Museum is a temporary exhibit created by the people who show up to participate. It works by choosing a theme and location, and inviting people to bring something on topic to share. This Pop Up Museum invites you to share your story with others to connect, share and collectively honor Memorial Day.
After the hour-long program, enjoy a BBQ luncheon at the Portuguese Hall hosted by Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 10110. Cost: $5/person.
