Museum of Art & History (MAH) invites the community to celebrate the dead with an all-ages festival throughout Downtown Santa Cruz.
Experience vibrant dance performances. Get your face painted. Indulge in delicious food. Join in on a procession to enjoy more dance, music and outdoor altars at Evergreen Cemetery.
Día de los Muertos is presented in partnership with Senderos.
At-a-glance Schedule
1-3pm Begin with facepainting, tissue paper flowers and luminaires at the MAH
3:30pm Gather in Abbott Square to proceed to Evergreen Cemetery
4-5pm Procession moves on to Evergreen Cemetery
5-7pm Conclude with music, dancing and altars at Evergreen Cemetery
Schedule Details
1:30-3:30pm Ongoing Art Activities including Facepainting by Mariposa’s Art, tissue paper flowers with Salud Y Carino and luminaries with Hospice of Santa Cruz.
3:30pm Gather in Abbott Square to proceed to Evergreen Cemetery; procession departs
5-7pm When procession arrives, Senderos will electrify the Cemetery with music and dance performances. Explore an outdoor altar installation connecting those buried in Evergreen with current active community members, groups and local social issues.
Procession Route
- Assembly Point: Abbott Square
- Through Cooper Street to Pacific Avenue
- Pacific Avenue to Mission Street
- Left on Mission Street up hill to enter Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park via gate/staircase (a 10 minute dance performance by Senderos will take place here)
- Through Mission Plaza to Highway 1 Pedestrian Overpass to Bike Path
- Bike Path to Evergreen and Coral Street
- Ending location: Evergreen Cemetery
