REPORTS TO: Recreation Coordinator - Senior Programs

SUPERVISES: Recreation II or Recreation III

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under supervision, performs a variety of duties in support of the Downtown Seniors Program at London Nelson Community Center. Hours vary depending on need, vacation coverage of permanent staff and other special events as planned.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Set up and tear-down of various equipment used in Senior Program activities.
- Answer phones, take messages and appointments as needed and disseminate information to the public.
- Collect and report cash donations to senior programs and forward to facility staff for deposit.
- Effectively register patrons in classes and programs and complete facility reservations using the complex registration software (RecTrac).
- Direct the work of volunteers in their training and assignments such as mailing projects and creating lab assistant schedules.
- Develop, lead and /or participate in activities and meetings.
- Recruit teachers and coordinate senior classes within Parks and Recreation procedures and guidelines.
- May plan, arrange, advertise and lead off site Senior Day Trips.
- May plan, arrange, advertise and lead weekly easy to moderate level walks within County limits for seniors.
- May drive a van pool vehicle with participants to off-site trip or walking locations.
- May be involved and special event planning and implementation.
- May purchase supplies for events and programs at off-site locations.
- May act in a lead capacity training or directing the work of Recreation II, III and Volunteer staff.
- May be expected to troubleshoot computer network related issues in the computer lab as well as help resolve individual user issues.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or difficult situations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Experience and comfort using a computer and a variety of different software programs.
- Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals.
- Ability to understand and give verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to work irregular schedules, and occasional weekend hours.
- Willingness to report to work on time as scheduled once shift is accepted.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduation or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience in customer service.
REQUIRED LICENSES:
- CPR and First Aid Certification within 3 months of hire date.
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and safe driving record.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of local services and programs for senior citizens.
- Comfortable with both Mac and PC Operating systems.
- Ability to speak, read and write Spanish
- Experience planning, organizing and promoting programs
