New Year's Eve Downtown Corridor In Santa Cruz Designated Safety Enhancement Zone

SANTA CRUZ — As in previous years, the Santa Cruz Police Department will deploy all available officers to ensure a safe New Year's Eve environment. To encourage respectful behavior, the Santa Cruz Police Department enacts a Safety Enhancement Zone designation in the downtown corridor.   

The Safety Enhancement Zone begins at 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 31, 2023, and ends at 5:00 AM on Monday, January 1, 2024. The Safety Enhancement Zone allows for a "Triple Fine" levied for certain Municipal Code violations, such as possessing alcoholic beverages in public and other unsafe or illegal behavior-related Ordinances.

Patrolling officers will use proactive strategies to minimize problems and reduce the opportunity for alcohol-fueled issues and inappropriate behavior throughout downtown and the city.
