ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS - CITYWIDE

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) policy work is ever changing, especially given the influence of state law over local policy. As state laws change, local law changes, too. The City is working on updates to the ADU ordinance this year.

Amendments to the City's ADU regulations were recently approved by the City Council on October 22, 2024 and will go into effect November 21, 2024.

A follow-up ordinance will be presented to the Planning Commission on November 7, 2024. This ordinance will ensure continued compliance with state law and will revisit the topics of owner-occupancy for ADUs constructed prior to 2020 as well as the potential for ADUs to be sold separately as condominiums

 The Department of Planning and Community Development held a virtual community meeting on August 15th to present upcoming amendments and obtain feedback from the community. You can review the presentation slides and watch the recording of the community meeting here:
