This list is not intended to scare you, but rather to encourage you to prepare for emergencies so you can not only help yourself and your family, but also your community. Santa Cruz has experienced a number of significant disasters but it also has a long-standing tradition of proactive planning and program implementation to mitigate and combat the effects of disasters.
