 Discussion of the Big Picture Downtown – MEETING RECAP 

 

 September 17th, 2019

Stakeholder Attendees:

Coastal Watershed Council, Campaign for Sensible Transportation, Downtown Commons Advocates, Santa Cruz County Chamber, Santa Cruz County Business Council, Downtown Management Corporation, and Downtown Forward

The subcommittee first heard presentations from Brad Segal (Powerpoint & Video) from Progressive Urban Management Associates (PUMA), Chuck Depew (video) from the National Development Council (NDC), and staff: Bonnie Lipscomb (Economic Development Director) and Lee Butler (Planning and Community Development Director).

The Subcommittee next engaged with Stakeholder groups. The first question was "what is your vision for Downtown?".

As part of the evening, the Subcommittee conducted a poll of the stakeholders – asking them whether they agreed or disagreed with following statements.

 We should use existing plan (like the DT Plan) to inform the future of Downtown  1  7
 Supporting retailers and businesses in our downtown should be a top priority     7
 We should build as much housing as we can in the downtown  1  8

 Our downtown should cater more to tourists  7
 There should be a defines civic center area in our downtown    6
