Starting in early May, a short segment of West Cliff Drive from Woodrow Ave to David Way will be closed to all bikes, pedestrians, and cars until it is safe to reopen (homeowners will have access).

The next phase will reconstruct Bethany Curve Culvert, complete with new headwalls, roadway stabilization, and pedestrian railings. The West Cliff Repairs initiative is underway, an emergency response to the severe damage West Cliff Drive endured during the January 2023 and 2024 storms.

Recovery efforts are divided into three packages:

1) Infill Walls (underway)
2) Bethany Culvert (May ’24)
3) Rip Rap Replacement (TBD) to fix damages and ensure the safety and functionality of the roadway, paths, and surrounding areas.

For safety, West Cliff Drive will be fully closed to all users around the Bethany culvert project, necessitating a pedestrian detour up David Way to Oxford Way and back to Woodrow Ave.

  • As soon as May 6, 2024, a new bike and pedestrian detour will be established prior to construction. Current vehicle detours will stay the same, and Bethany Curve Park and path will remain open. The project is estimated to be completed by Winter 2024/25.
