The Fire and Life Safety Inspection Program is to safeguard to a reasonable degree life and property from the hazards of fire and explosion arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices and from conditions hazardous to life or property in the use or occupancy of buildings or premises.
What this means to you as a business owner, is that the Fire Department will be requesting fire safety inspections of your business every 1-3 years. This includes apartments, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, medical facilities and other small businesses. These inspections are mandated by the Fire Department and are not optional.
Basic fire inspection rates for inspection services are $132.00 per hour (minimum 1 hour per visit). Re-inspections to gain compliance after initial inspection are $66-$132 per hour (minimum ½ hour per visit). The fee is based on Resolution NS 27,591.
