Are you passionate about Zero Waste? Are you ready to learn more about reducing waste, diverting food scraps from the landfill, recycling right, and then educating and inspiring others so they can make a difference too? If you answered yes, then the City of Santa Cruz Master Recycler Volunteer Training Program is for you.

Over eight sessions, ( six Tuesdays and two Saturdays)you'll learn why recycling is so much more than a triangle and a blue bin. You'll learn new strategies to reduce waste and learn why it is imperative we get food waste out of the landfill. To help in your planning and making the commitment, class dates and times are:

Tuesdays from 5:30PM-7:30PM on 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 3/4, 3/11, 3/18

Saturdays from 10:00AM-1:00PM on 2/15 and 3/1

Advanced application and confirmation of registration is required. Applications for the class of 2025  open on Thursday January 2nd, 2025. Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 30. Space is limited; priority consideration will be given to people who reside or work within the City of Santa Cruz. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

NOTE:  Class session material, announcements and message board will be shared using the online private and virtual platform,  Discord. Invitations to join will be extended to participants prior to the first class.

Master Recycler Volunteers are community advocates that educate and inspire their fellow citizens to reduce waste, recycle right  and divert food waste from the landfill.

If you are: passionate about Zero Waste, able to meet people wherever they are on the hierarchy of discard management, can commit to the requirements outlined in the Brochure and are  excited to share what you learn with others then this program may be for you.

While priority enrollment is given to residents that live or work within the boundary of the City of Santa Cruz, we welcome applicants that reside in the unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County.
