Notice to City of Santa Cruz Residents,
Santa Cruz County North Coast Residents and
Businesses Hauling Waste from the City of Santa Cruz

The City of Santa Cruz Resource Recovery Facility on Dimeo Lane is only open to City of Santa Cruz
residents and businesses hauling materials generated within the City limits. Those Santa Cruz County residents (but not businesses) who live along the coast north of Dimeo Lane may take materials to the Dimeo Lane facility for an additional fee. All users must be prepared to provide proof of residence or proof that the materials hauled were generated within the city limits.

Residents of the City of Santa Cruz who need to self-haul materials from their residence to a landfill are encouraged to use the City Resource Recovery Facility/Landfill located on Dimeo Lane, three miles north of the City Limits off Hwy 1. Residents must be prepared to provide proof of residency (a driver’s license and utility bill or similar document with a City address) to the Gate Attendant.

Businesses hauling materials which were generated within the City limits of the City of Santa Cruz are also encouraged to use the City’s Dimeo Lane facility. Businesses should be prepared to provide proof that the materials came from within the City limits. A typical way to provide proof would be to present a signed and dated letter or contract from the property owner or manager where the materials were generated, indicating that the business has been hired to haul those materials.

As of June 2009, City of Santa Cruz residents and businesses are permitted to use the County of Santa Cruz Buena Vista Landfill and Ben Lomond Transfer Station. A surcharge of 28% will be added to regular county fees. City of Santa Cruz residents may continue to use the Household Hazardous Waste Drop- Off centers at the County’s Buena Vista and Ben Lomond sites free of charge, and may also drop off “non-fee” recyclable materials at those sites without being charged. If you have questions about the County Disposal Facilities,
