Moving Out of Your Off Campus Housing? 

The City offers solutions for unwanted items as follows:

NOTE: NO FREE STUFF ON THE CURB- Don't leave items on the Curb with a Free Sign. These items impair safe navigation of our sidewalks, and often are relocated to our creeks and open spaces and are subject to Illegal Dumping charges.

• Host a Garage Sale! More info HERE

• Donate clean working items in good condition to Good Will, Salvation Army or Family Thrift or share on Free Cycle,  Nextdoor, or Craigslist Free.

• Mattress Recycling- Schedule Curbside Collection for a small fee or bring to Resource Recovery Facility at 605 Dimeo Lane for Free.

• REPAIR IT!- You Tube has information on all sorts of REPAIR projects. Who knows you might learn a new skill and save something from the landfill. Local Non profit, Grey Bears often hosts "Fix It Clinics" Check their web site or call to see when the next one is.

• Curbside Collection of Bulky Items- Contact Customer Service to schedule a Pick Up 420-5220 or scmu@santacruzca.gov

• Utility Account Holder (Utility bill in your name)  Use  remaining free "Virtual tags" first, after that, you will pay for 1 item and be able to set out up to five items for the price of one. No more than 10 items or 2 paid items per pick up. NOTE: Must be Scheduled in advance by contacting Customer Service at 831-420-5220.  Items left on curb with Free signs are considered illegal dumping and addressee will be issued a fine.

• Non-Account Holders (utility bill not in your name)- Complete this form. You will pay for one bulky item but can put out up to 5 items. or pay for 2 items and have up to 10 items collected.

Attention: With the exception of scrap metal, mattresses, box springs, TV's and large appliances, all collected items will be landfilled regardless of the condition.

• RECYCLE RIGHT!  Use the Recycle Guide or What Goes Where App  as a reference when choosing what to place in your blue recycle cart. Carts with contamination may not be emptied and may incur extra fees.
