Home MenuLaurel Street Vision Zero Safety Improvements
As the final phase of the Pure Water Soquel pipeline project, Laurel Street between California Street and Pacific Avenue will be restriped and resurfanced in the Fall of 2024. That effort provides the opportunity to implement safety improvements in support of the City’s Vision Zero policy. Click here to see the striping improvement plan.
Vision Zero is the concept that there is no acceptable number of traffic deaths and severe injuries on Santa Cruz roadways. The improvements include increasing intersection visibility at side-streets, adding buffered and separated bike lanes, improving crossings with wider medians and delineating bus stops while maintaining all travel lanes.
These improvements were approved at the March 14, 2023 City Council meeting.
New improved medians are currently being installed at the intersections of Felix and Blackburn.
Plans have been developed to install diagonal parking on Myrtle Street, north and south of Laurel Street. This will offset some of the parking lost on Laurel Street. Notices will be sent to impacted residents.
In Fall 2024l we expect to micro-surface Laurel Street, which will be followed by the striping that will conclude this project. (The timeline for this final work is contingent on Pure Water Soquel's project completion.)
