The January 2023 storms resulted in roadway failures that required closures of one lane of traffic on West Cliff Drive between Columbia Street and Woodrow Avenue.
The City of Santa Cruz is proceeding with the construction of infill walls at four locations (at 928, 932, 1016, and 1030 West Cliff Drive) starting in September 2023 to restore pre-storm conditions. During construction expect roadway conditions to change, including temporary detours and full closures. We anticipate this work to be completed by the end of the year.
The bridge at Bethany Curve remains closed to vehicular traffic until further notice.
West Cliff Drive between Almar Avenue and Mitchell’s Cove Parking Lot is open to local traffic only with shared lanes for bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
Parking remains open at Mitchell's Cove.
Detour signage has been placed to direct vehicular traffic.
While this traffic control plan illustrated below is temporary, it will be in place for multiple months given the time it will take to repair the pathway failures. Click here to see a larger version of the traffic control plan.
The roadway configuration and detours are subject to change due to multiple factors including roadway conditions or construction activity. Please stay tuned to this website for more information.
